Noisetar

Noisetar is a synthesizer dedicated to the generation of many different noise based sounds.

The generation is purely mathematical, no samples or wavetables are used, thus allowing for an easy continuous morphing from one sound to the other. Twelve parameters control the generator, moreover its output can be further shaped and enriched inside Noisetar with its two filters, a chorusing reverb and a stereo enhancer. As modulators Noisetar offers an ADSR envelope and keytracking, with seven destinations.

Using the included bandpass filter, which is tuned to the incoming MIDI notes, is also possible to play Noisetar melodically.

Noisetar is designed with DAW parameter automation in mind to tailor complex custom modulations tied to each project rather then dealing with complicated patches.

Noisetar has its own sound space, ranging from various digital noises to crackle, rattles and crepitations similar to wood fire or rain, scratchy percussions and foot stomps, with many others from the lowest booming and gurgling drones, to thin misty hisses. The quality and types of Noisetar sounds obviously doesn't cover all possible noise sounds, but most certainly will increase your noise arsenal without taking up more than 2MB on your drive.

RealSpread

Truality Audio has released RealSpread, a free VST plugin that widens a sound source.

RealSpread "Stereoizes" a mono audio signal or widens a stereo one, without practically compromising mono compatibility. The spartan GUI conforms to RealSpread's philosophy of simplicity in plugin design.

RealSpread is more effective on single sources, for example a single (mono) Drums Overhead or Room microphone. Of course, you can experiment with stereo sources.

ProjectSAM has released Dystopian Drones, another addition to The Free Orchestra series of free cinematic orchestral libraries for Native Instruments Kontakt.

The library comes with a customized Kontakt user interface with adjustable attack and release times, low-pass filter, distortion, reverb, and a limiter. The user can also apply the optional master equalizer and octaver effects. As for the included drone sounds, the library comes with seven drone samples in total, each around a minute long. The samples are mapped across the keyboard, with each drone sound being stretched across an octave.

The instrument isn’t very versatile, but it does indeed deliver some rather exciting dark cinematic tones. For music producers who want to add a darker vibe to their project, these sounds could be well worth checking out. The source samples are top quality and they can be tweaked to your liking using the built-in effects. Users who don’t own NI Kontakt can load the included drone samples in any sampler instrument capable of loading WAV files.

SQ8ROM

SQ8ROM is a free rompler virtual instrument offered in VST, VST3, and AU plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac. It is a sample-based recreation of the legendary Ensoniq SQ-80 hardware synthesizer. The SQ-80 was the successor of the much-beloved SQ-1 keyboard, featuring 41 additional waveforms and various hardware improvements. Similar to its hardware counterpart, SQ8ROM is a fantastic source of lush 80s-style pads, vintage leads, and warm bass sounds.

The instrument comes with 168 multi-sampled patches. These are all clearly labeled and easily accessible through the plugin’s preset browser. The source sounds can be tweaked using SQ8ROM’s volume envelope and LFO modulation controls. A built-in reverb is also included, courtesy of the MaizeSampler platform which was used as the framework for developing the plugin.

LA school esquire limiter

The esquire limiter uses two algorithms to process sound; A standard "envelope" mode as well as a "pumping" mode which allows some very unique effects.

Designed to be fast and easy on the CPU; The envelope Mode uses at most 1.2% of Your CPU while the Pumping Mode 1.8 - 3.2%.

In pumping mode; at low threshold and ratio tolerances, the Esquire reacts much like a peak limiter in that it aggressively reduces volume. This however can be a great strength to create both effect and a more pleasing variety of normalization.

A smooth and sweet sound allows this limiter to be used at either the forefront in the master channel or track by track with little coloration and dissonance. Do be careful of the pumping mode however due to its intolerance of gain variance.

ToneZ synthesizer

ToneZ is a virtual synthesizer designed specifically for EDM music production. It features four oscillators with twelve morphable waveforms covering a range of classic and less common waveform shapes.  The oscillators can be detuned and widened to generate fatter sounds suitable for use as EDM leads and pads. The synthesis engine features four envelopes with exponential and linear curves, two LFO generators with six waveform shapes, and a mod matrix for connecting the available modulation sources with different parameters.
The timbre can be shaped using two multi-mode filter units and six built-in effects. The effects cover distortion, chorusing, compression, delay, reverb, and equalization.
