T-Force Delay

 T-Force Delay is a dual mode delay effect device. It can be used to add an echo effect to your sound. Its feedback signal can be modulated with filters and a degrader, to emulate the old vinage style analog tape echo effects. It can produce simple stereo delays, but also can be switched to ping pong mode for that typical left/right pingpong echo effect. it  also has a flanger to create some crazy flanger effects on the feedback signal.

GSi VariSpeed

 VariSpeed emulates the Watkins (WEM) Copicat IC400 tape delay, one of the most sought-after vintage tape delay units. The IC400 was WEM’s first echo machine. The unit is known for its variable-speed belt drive motor, which, as the moniker “VariSpeed” implies, allows the IC400 to change the delay time.

The original Copicat IC400 is unusually flexible for a vintage tape delay unit. It can pull off short slapback delays and groovy off-beat delays with ease. IC400’s secret sauce, though, are those never-ending swirly echo swells that can take a life of their own.

The user can adjust the input signal for the left and right audio channels, the motor speed (delay time), repeat rate (delay length), swell (delay level), and the tone. The green, white, and red buttons toggle the three delay pickup heads. An on/off switch is also included as a quick and easy bypass method.

Baby Comeback

 Baby Comeback is a free delay plugin based on Baby Audio’s popular Comeback Kid delay/echo effect. 

Much like its bigger brother, Baby Comeback CM can sound modern and clean, as well as vintage and lo-fi. You can use it for adding a subtle wide delay to a lead vocal, or as a massive vintage tape echo for your next shoegaze track.

There are four delay flavors to choose from. The “Wide” mode sounds clean while expanding the stereo image. The “Analog” mode is inspired by vintage tape delay units and bucket brigade echoes of yesteryear. “Saucey” delivers a lush delay sound that works exceptionally well on synth leads and pads. Finally, the “Cheap” mode emulates 80s rack delays and their irresistibly quirky lo-fi sounds.

Another feature worth mentioning is the Duck control. It will automatically lower the volume of the delayed signal when the input signal is present. This feature is a lifesaver if you want to add a lot of delay to a vocal while keeping the lyrics intelligible. The delay will remain audible, but the main vocal will cut right through it.

Regrader Lo-Fi Delay

Regrader features multiple audio-degrading modules in the feedback path, resulting in an interesting lo-fi effect. Apart from the basic Echoes section which controls the delay time, feedback, and mix, the plugin also includes a Filter section, as well as Gravel, Horror, and Warble modules. Gravel and Warble control stereo and pitch modulation, whereas Horror distorts the feedback signal via bitcrushing and sample rate reduction. The Filter module contains a resonant low-pass filter which can be modulated as well.

Speculum Free Comb Filter

Speculum Free is a modulation tool capable of operating as a comb filter or as a standard delay effect. The only difference between the two operating modes is in the scaling of the Delay Time parameter. Its range is between 0s and 0.02s while in Comb Filter mode, whereas the maximum value is increased to two seconds while in Delay mode. Obviously, the developer’s idea was to allow for more precise adjustments when using the plugin as a comb filter, as even the smallest of delay time shifts will result in a different sounding timbre.

The plugin also features a built-in low-pass filter with cutoff and resonance controls. The filter is placed outside of the feedback path, so it only affects the signal before it reaches the delay stage. In other words, the feedback signal is not affected by the filter. As a result, the effect is easier to control when working with longer feedback times (to prevent resonance buildups and excess volume) but also somewhat limited as a creative sound design tool. That said, Speculum Free can cover a range of effects, from basic delay and comb filtering to flanging, phasing, and more.

PhatNoise Delay

PhatNoise Delay is a pretty straightforward delay effect with adjustable delay time, feedback, and dry/wet parameters. The product page states that the plugin emulates “the rich and thick sound of tape echo units from the 70s”, but I have to admit that I wasn’t getting any of that vibe while testing PhatNoise Delay. It sounds like a pure digital delay to me without any coloration of the delayed signal whatsoever.
